STRAWBERRY CARROUSEL SHORTCAKE | |
1 qt. strawberries 1 c. sugar 2 c. flour 2 tbsp. sugar 3 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 1/3 c. shortening 1 c. milk butter, softened Cream or sweetened whipped cream Sprinkle strawberries with 1 cup sugar; let stand 1 hour. Heat oven to 450 degrees. Grease round layer pan (8 x 1 1/2 inch). Stir together flour, 2 tablespoons sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut in shortening. Stir in milk just until blended. Spread dough in pan. Bake until golden brown, 15 to 20 minutes. Split layer crosswise while hot. Spread with butter; fill and top with berries. Serve warm with cream. Makes 8 servings. |
