GREEN SPLIT PEA AND BARLEY SOUP 
4 qts. water
2 lb. slice of beef, cut in cubes
4 or 5 marrow bones
1 lb. box green split peas
1 tsp. salt
4 carrots, cut up
3 stalks celery
1/4 c. barley

Boil water with meat and bones. Skim the top of water. Add rest of ingredients, except barley. Bring to a boil and simmer for 3 hours. Add barley and cook for 2 more hours.
