1 c. granulated sugar 3 tbsp. melted shortening 1/4 tsp. nutmeg 4 tsp. baking powder 4 c. flour 1/3 tsp. baking soda 1 c. sour milk or buttermilk 1/2 tsp. salt 2 eggs 1 tsp. cinnamon Beat eggs until light, add sugar, beat until smooth. Stir in melted shortening, sift the flour with baking powder, nutmeg, cinnamon and salt. Add milk and flour alternately and mix to a smooth soft dough. Turn out by large spoonfuls on a floured board. Knead lightly, roll out to 1/2 inch thickness. Fry in hot fat. Makes 3 1/2 to 4 dozen. |
