BUTTERMILK ROLLS 
Start with:

1 c. lukewarm buttermilk

Then add:

1/4 tsp. baking soda

Stir in:

1 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. melted shortening

Mix together.

Sprinkle:

1 pkg. dry yeast over this and let stand 5 minutes.
Mix in 2 1/2 c. flour

Place on floured board and knead until smooth. Cover with cloth and let stand 20 minutes. Form into 2 1/2 inch balls and place on cookie sheet. Let stand 25 minutes. Bake at 350 until brown. Do not preheat oven.
