SPICED CRANBERRY NUT BREAD 
1 1/2 c. chopped cranberries
1 1/2 c. sugar
3 c. flour
2 1/4 tsp. baking powder
2 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. grated orange zest
1 1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. cloves
2/3 c. shortening
1 c. orange juice
2 eggs, beaten
1 1/2 c. chopped walnuts

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease a loaf pan. Combine the berries with one fourth cup of the sugar and set them aside. Combine the remaining dry ingredients, including the sugar. Cut in the shortening. Add the juice and eggs, mixing well.

Stir the berries and walnuts into the batter and pour it into the prepared pan. Bake the loaf one hour and 10 minutes, until a tester inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool out of the pan on a wire rack.
