FRESH APPLESAUCE CAKE 
1 c. butter
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
3 c. cake flour
1 tsp. allspice
3 med. apples
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. warm water
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon

Cream the butter and sugar. Add the well beaten eggs. Dissolve the soda in water and add the spices to flour. Alternate water and flour. Stir in the apples that have been ground fine. Bake in greased and floured layered cake pans in a 325 degree oven.

CUSTARD FILLING:

3 c. milk
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. sugar
3 tbsp. flour
1 or more c. pecans

Beat the eggs and add the sugar and flour blended in. Add to hot milk and cook in top of double boiler until thick, stirring constantly. When cooled, add flavoring and pecans.
