1 c. butter
2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
3 eggs
1 1/2 tsp. cr. of tartar
1 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda, dissolved in 2 tbsp. milk
4 1/2 c. flour

Cream butter and sugar together. Add vanilla, milk with soda, eggs, then salt and cream of tartar, sifted with 3 cups of flour.

Add additional flour to make dough that can be rolled. Chill helps. Roll out on floured board and cut out cookies, decorate. Bake at 400 degrees for 8 to 15 minutes ungreased cookie sheet.
