BEAN SOUP 
1 lb. dry navy beans
2 1/2 qt. water
3 stalks celery, chopped
3 carrots, chopped
1 med. onion, chopped
1 meaty ham
1/2 c. catsup
Salt and pepper

Wash and sort beans. Place in large pot. Add water and boil 2 minutes. Remove from heat and cook 1 hour. Wash and chop all vegetables. After soaking beans add vegetables, ham, cut up beans, and water. Cover pot and bring to boil. Lower and simmer for 3 hours or until everything is tender. Stir soup occasionally.
