APPLESAUCE DOUGHNUTS 
3 1/2 c. flour, divided
1 tbsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cloves
1 c. applesauce
3/4 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 tbsp. shortening
Vegetable oil
Powdered sugar

Combine 1 1/3 cups flour and next 8 ingredients. Beat at low speed until well blended. Increase speed of mixer to medium and beat 2 minutes more. Stir in remaining flour; cover dough and chill at least 1 hour.

Divide dough in half. Roll to 1/2 inch thickness; cut with floured cutter. Heat 2 to 3 inches of oil to 375 degrees. Drop in 3 or 4 doughnuts at a time. Cook about 1 minute on each side, until golden. Drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Makes about 2 dozen.
