Put a small amount of water in the bottom of a pot. Wash and separate the spears and flowerettes of the broccoli and cauliflower. Place in a steamer, wire basket or colander (where they will not be in the water in bottom of the pot). Salt the vegetables and cover pan with lid. Let water boil for 5 to 7 minutes until vegetables are tender. (We like ours more on the firm side as opposed to softer mushier vegetables.)
When tender remove from steamer and put in a bowl. Place butter on top - as much as you like - and serve. For variation you can also melt Velveeta cheese and pour over the broccoli and cauliflower.
Any fresh vegetables can be combined in this manner and prepared this way.
