1 1/2 lb. hamburger
1 c. chopped onion

Brown and add: 1 c. celery 1 c. carrots 1 c. potatoes 2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. pepper 1 beef bouillon cube 1 bay leaf 1 pinch of basil

Bring to a boil. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes. Add 1 pint of chopped tomatoes. Cover and simmer.
