BEEF STEW 
2 lbs. beef stew, cut into 1 inch cubes
2 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. shortening
1 c. celery, cut 1/2 inch
1 garlic, minced
1 bay leaf
1 can corn
1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. pepper
6 carrots, cut 1 inch
1 onion
1 can tomatoes
1/3 c. water

Mix flour, salt and pepper together. Coat beef cubes with mixture. Heat shortening in skillet and brown beef. Combine all ingredients in slow cooker, except water. Add water to skillet, scraping meat bits from bottom and then adding this to cooker. Cook on low for 10 to 12 hours.
