1 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
2 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 cup walnuts
1 cup raisins
1/2 cup dates
1 1/2 cups canned applesauce
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream sugar and shortening. Add remaining ingredients.

Bake in an angel food cake tube pan at 350°F for 1 hour or until cake tests done.
