GRANDMA ILIFF'S DATE FILLED
COOKIES
 
1 c. shortening
3 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
2 c. brown sugar
4 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. chopped nuts

FILLING:

1 pkg. dates
1 c. water
1/3 c. sugar

Cook filling until thick; cool.

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs. Add dry ingredients and nuts. Divide dough in half. Roll into rectangle. Spread with filling and roll up jelly roll fashion. Wrap in waxed paper and chill.

Slice and bake - 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes. Watch, they burn easily.
