FRIED BISCUITS | |
1 qt. milk 1/4 c. sugar 2 3/4 pkg. dry yeast (or 1/6 c. yeast) 1/2 c. lard or shortening 6 tsp. salt 7 to 9 c. flour Add yeast to warm water. Add other ingredients and let dough rise. Knead, roll out and cut into small biscuits. Drop into hot fat or shortening. (The fat should be preheated to slightly hotter than 350 degrees.) If the fat is too hot, the biscuits will be soggy in the center. Lightly brown. This recipe makes about 7 dozen. Put the remainder on cookie sheets, freeze individually and then store in plastic bags. To use the frozen biscuits, remove them from the freezer, thaw and fry. You do not have to let them rise, they will "puff up" as soon as they are dropped into the fat. Great with Apple Butter! |
