1/4 c. shortening
1/4 c. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. sugar
1/4 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
8 oz. pkg. chocolate chips
Walnuts (opt.)

Cream shortening, butter, vanilla and sugars. Add egg, beat thoroughly. Add sifted dry ingredients (sifting is important to keep cookies soft). Stir in chips and nuts. Put 1 1/2" balls of dough on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. I measure dry ingredients first then sift.
