CARAMEL LAYER SQUARES 
1 pkg. German chocolate cake mix
2/3 c. evaporated milk
14 oz. pkg. caramels
6 oz. pkg. chocolate chips
3/4 c. butter, melted
1 c. chopped pecans

Melt caramels with 1/3 cup evaporated milk. (Can be done in microwave on high for 2 minutes; stir; microwave 1 to 2 minutes more.) Mix cake mix and 1/3 cup evaporated milk. Add butter and chopped nuts. Grease and flour a 13"x9" pan. Spread half of the cake mixture in pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 6 minutes. Remove cake from oven. Sprinkle on chocolate chips and spread on caramel mixture. Top with remaining cake batter and return to oven for 20 minutes. Cool and cut into squares. NOTE: Batter does not spread easily. It has to be patted in with hands and laid on top.

Since microwave ovens vary in power, you may need to adjust your cooking time.
