CHOCOLATE CARAMEL LAYER SQUARES 
1 pkg. (14 oz.) caramels
1 German chocolate cake mix
1 c. chopped pecans
1 pkg. (6 oz.) chocolate bits
1/3 c. evaporated milk
3/4 c. butter, melted
1/3 c. evaporated milk

Combine caramels with 1/3 cup evaporated milk. Stir over low heat until melted. Combine cake mix, butter, nuts and 1/3 cup evaporated milk and mix by hand until it holds together.

Spread 1/2 mixture in greased and floured 9 x 13 inch pan, bake 6 minutes at 350 degrees. Remove from oven and sprinkle on chocolate bits. Then pour caramel mixture on after spreading chocolate bits a little. Spoon remaining cake mixture over top. Bake 15 to 20 minutes. Cool completely before cutting. Very rich, so cut into small pieces.
