VEGETABLE SOUP 
1 1/2 lbs. shin bone of beef
1 lb. stew beef
3 qt. cold water
1/2 tsp. peppercorns
3 whole cloves
2 bay leaves
1 tsp. thyme
2 tsp. marjoram
2 sprigs parsley
2 cans tomatoes
1 can tomato juice
4 carrots, sliced
1 parsnip, sliced
2 turnips, cubed
2 onions, diced
3 c. chopped celery
2 potatoes, diced
2 tbsp. salt
2 tbsp. celery seeds

Simmer bone, beef and water 3 hours. Take out bone and add rest of ingredients. Simmer gently 2 hours. This makes an ice clear vegetable beef soup.
