DOG BISCUITS
1 c. flour
1 c. whole wheat flour
1/2 c. wheat germ
1/2 c. powdered milk
1/2 tsp. salt
6 tbsp. butter, lard, chilled bacon fat, or other shortening
1 egg
1 tsp. brown sugar
Water as needed

Combine first 5 ingredients in a bowl. Cut in shortening until it resembles cornmeal. Beat sugar with egg. Stir it in. Add water gradually as necessary to make stiff dough, about 1/2 cup. Knead on floured board until smooth and pliable. Roll to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes. Bake at 325 degrees until lightly browned, about 30 minutes. Yield: About 2 dozen biscuits.
