RED DEVIL CAKE 
2 1/2 c. flour
2 c. sugar
3/4 c. shortening (1/2 c. oil and 1/4 c. Crisco)
2 eggs
1/2 c. cocoa
1 c. hot water
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. buttermilk

Cream shortening and sugar. Add sifted flour, cocoa, salt. Add milk and vanilla. Mix well. Add eggs and mix well.

Dissolve baking soda in hot water and add to above mixture. Place in 9 x 13 inch greased and floured pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes.
