ORANGE NUT CAKE 
2 c. sugar
1 1/3 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
2 sticks butter
1 lb. orange slices, chopped
1 c. coconut
4 eggs
4 c. flour
2 tsp. orange rind
1 c. chopped nuts
1 pkg. chopped dates

Cream butter and sugar until smooth. Add eggs, one at a time. Beat well after each addition. Dissolve soda in buttermilk and add to creamed mixture. Place flour in large bowl and add orange slices, dates and nuts. Stir to coat each piece. Add flour mixture and coconut to creamed mixture. This makes a very stiff dough and should be mixed by hand. Put in greased and floured stem pan. Bake at 250 degrees for 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

FILLING:

2 c. powdered sugar
1 c. orange juice
2 tbsp. orange rind

Heat enough to dissolve, then pour over cake while hot. May leave cake in pan overnight, if desired.
