OLD FASHION STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE 
3/4 c. Crisco
3/4 c. sweet milk
1 egg
1/3 c. sugar
Self-rising flour (enough for biscuits)
1 carton whipping cream
2 c. fresh strawberries

Sift flour as if to make biscuits. Cut Crisco into flour until well mixed. Add milk, egg and sugar and mix as you would for biscuits until smooth. Place on well greased griddle (spread flat). Bake in preheated oven until light brown and cooked through. Split while hot and butter each side. 2 c. berries 1/2 tsp. vanilla flavoring

Stem and wash berries. Crush and add 3/4 cup sugar. Whip cream until stiff. Add 1/4 cup sugar and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla flavoring. With cut side up of cake, spread part of berries and cover with cream. Place the other on top, finish the same way.
