CHANUKAH COOKIES 
2/3 c. shortening
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. grated orange peel
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
4 tsp. milk
2 c. sifted flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt

Thoroughly cream shortening, sugar, orange peel and vanilla. Add egg; beat until fluffy. Stir in milk and dry ingredients.

On floured surface roll half of dough 1/8 inch thick. Cut in shapes using Chanukah Cookie Cutters. Add "Sprinkles" or Egg Yolk Paint (see recipe below). Bake on greased cookie sheet at 375 degrees 6 to 8 minutes. Makes 2 dozen cookies.

EGG YOLK PAINT:

1 egg yolk
1/2 tsp. water

Divide mixture in small cups and add a different food coloring to each cup. Paint cookie with thin brush. If "paint" thickens, add a few drops of water.
