OLD - FASHIONED JUMBO SUGAR
COOKIES

1/2 c. unsalted butter, room temp.
1/2 c. shortening, room temp.
1 1/2 c. white sugar
Sm. pinch of salt
3 lg. eggs, lightly beaten
1 1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. almond extract
1/2 tsp. pure lemon extract
1/4 tsp. orange extract
2 1/2 c. unbleached white flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1/3 c. sugar (approx.) for dipping cookies

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease cookie sheet.

Cream butter and shortening until well blended. Mix in sugar and salt. Blend in eggs and extracts.

Mix flour with soda and cream of tartar and fold into batter to make a soft, but firm, dough. Roll dough into balls about the size of golf balls. Dip tops into sugar and place about 2 inches apart on baking sheet. Press very slightly (for crisper cookies) or not at all for slightly soft-centered cookies with crisp edges. (For easier handling, chill dough 15 minutes. Dough freezes well.)

Bake until edges are golden brown 12 to 16 minutes. Cool 2 minutes before removing from sheet. Cool on wire rack. Store in refrigerator. Makes about 2 1/2 large cookies.

Old - Fashioned Jumbo Sugar Cookies

I made this recipe earlier in the week, and the cookies were delicious and didn't last long! I opted for a thinner cookie, and as a result the cookies were moist, crispy, irresistible. So why only the 4 stars? I had all the ingredients already, but even still that's a lot of different flavored extracts, in my opinion, to have to have for a sugar cookie. While this cookie was certainly delicious and I would make these again, I would not go out and buy all the extracts called for just for this recipe; there are many equally wonderful sugar cookie recipes out there.
