1/2 c. butter, softened
1 c. sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 c. mashed bananas (about 3)
1/2 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
3 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. nut meats (optional)

Mix together first 6 ingredients. Mix flour, soda, salt, and nut meats and add to liquid mixture. Cool 1 hour in refrigerator. Bake on cookie sheet 10 to 12 minutes at 375 degrees. Ice when cookie is just a little warm.
