SOFT SUGAR COOKIES | |
1 1/2 c. sifted confectioners' sugar 1 c. butter 1 egg 1 tsp. vanilla 1/2 tsp. almond flavoring 2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. cream of tartar Mix sugar and butter. Add egg and flavorings; mix thoroughly. Measure flour by dipping method or by sifting. Stir dry ingredients together and blend in. Refrigerate 2 to 3 hours. Heat oven to 375 degrees (quick moderate). Divide dough in half and roll 3/16 inch thick on lightly floured pastry cloth. Cut with cookie cutter; sprinkle with sugar. Place on lightly greased baking sheet. Bake 7 to 8 minutes, or until delicately golden. Makes 5 dozen 2 to 2 1/2 inch cookies. Note: If you use self-rising flour, omit soda and cream of tartar. |
