IRISH BUTTERMILK SODA BREAD | |
4 c. flour 3/4 c. sugar 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking soda 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 stick butter 1 egg, beaten 1 1/2 c. buttermilk, including eggs 1 tbsp. caraway seed 1 1/2 c. raisins Sift dry ingredients. Add butter, cut into pieces. Mix with flour. Add raisins and caraway seeds. Add milk and egg, mix with FORK. Add flour as needed to knead. Divide into 2 balls - for loaf pan. Bake in loaf pan, springform pan or sheet. Cut X on top. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. |
