DATE AND NUT PINWHEELS 
8 oz. cut dates
1/2 c. water
1/2 c. sugar
2/3 c. nuts, chopped

Cook dates, sugar and water together until thick. Cool; add nuts.

DOUGH:

1 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. salt
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
3 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon

Cream shortening, sugar and salt. Add eggs and vanilla; blend. Sift flour, baking soda and cinnamon; add to creamed mixture. Divide dough into 2 parts. Roll each part to 1/4-inch thickness. Spread filling on dough and roll as for jelly roll. Place in refrigerator to chill thoroughly. Cut in thin slices. Bake 10 to 12 minutes, on greased cookie sheet, at 375 degrees.
