I do cheat once in a while by using canned, however there is an easy way of peeling and slicing sweet pototes. You have to boil the potatoes for 30 minutes, let cool and the skin peels right off and the potatoes are somewhat soft so you can chop.

THANKS SO MUCH FOR THIS RECIPE!!! I have never cared for sweet potatoes and this recipe has made me love them! I made them for Thanksgiving last year and everyone loved them despite their hesitation with the red hots. I use this recipe frequently for parties and other get together's. Thanks again! :)

This is the first time that I get to have xmas dinner at my house and i've never really cooked xmas dinner except for green beans and pudding pies. So this is a quick and easy recipe for candied yams. And I to prefer canned yams than the fresh ones.

Thanks Angie for the quick recipe. My boyfriend is coming home and he wants candied yams. I work and don't have time to cut the potatoes. He will never know the difference!!! Thanks!!

Dear Angela, I use canned yams, but, being candied yam challenged, usually end up mashing them up. Your recipe is exactly what I needed, now have time to make candied yams along with all the other fixins. This will be a nice surprise and treat for Thanksgiving diner. Will buy two cans, one with red hots (for me) and one without. Thanks Angela Happy Thanksgiving to All

I love this recipe! So easy and so delicious. I was trying to find a nice quick way but all the recipes required peeling and cutting. Uh, no. I don't have time for all that. Thank you so much Angela!!!

Great recipe, except I take the juice from the can and mix in the butter and brown sugar, salt and pepper in a pot and boil it on the stove, then pour the mixture over canned yams.... The juices get really thick and good that way... Then I put marshmallows on top and bake a few minutes more....so they get nice and brown.

This is great. I was looking for an easy way to do it! This is my first Thanksgiving away from home and where I'll be cooking I have so much already to do I wasn't going to do the yams but my boyfriend wants it so... I'm starting off simple. Maybe when I get a house I'll go big!

This recipe is great! I did it last year but had to use torpedos (shaped like good n' plenty's with just about the same flavor as red hots) instead of red hots..I just couldn't find the red hots..I did this year though and everybody including the kids loved it so much last year they're hoping I'll bring it again this year.

Thanks Angie! I was looking for something that sounds yummy for Thanksgiving. I don't know about adding the red hots... I would love it, but I might leave them out. I really want to try it with them though.

I'm gonna try this but am cooking a larger portion. Should I just double up on everything in the recipe?

Thank you for the recipe. I know I'm making homemade mashed potatoes, gravy, turkey, cranberry salad, stuffing, pies, cranberry salad, appetizers... and any cuts I can make is a plus!!! There is only two of us who like yams so this way I can still enjoy them without to much more effort. :)

I've been making this recipe for a few years now since I first found it online. It's always a HUGE hit. The redhots are the secret ingredient! Making it for two different Thanksgiving gatherings this year. Thanks for the recipe. :)
