BUTTERMILK CAKE 
2 c. sugar
1/2 c. Crisco shortening
2 c. buttermilk
2 tsp. baking soda
3 c. flour
1/4 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
2 c. raisins
2 c. chopped walnuts

Cream sugar and shortening. Dissolve baking soda in buttermilk. Mix flour and spices and alternate with milk to first mixture. Lastly, add raisins and chopped nuts. Pour into 2 loaf pans. Bake 1 hour in 350 degree oven in greased and floured loaf pans.
