APPLE DUMPLINGS 
Sugar Syrup:

1/2 c. butter
2 c. sugar
2 c. water

Melt butter in 9 x 13-inch pan. Heat sugar and water until sugar melts.

Dumplings:

1 1/2 c. self-rising flour
1/2 c. shortening
1/3 c. milk
2 c. chopped apples
1 tsp. cinnamon

Cut shortening into flour. Add milk. Knead a little. Roll until 1/4-inch thick. Top with apples and sprinkle with cinnamon. Roll like jelly roll. Slice into 1/2-inch slices and place in pan with melted butter. Pour sugar syrup carefully around rolls.

Bake at 350°F for 45 to 60 minutes.
