CUCUMBER RED HOTS 
12 lg. cucumbers, peeled and sliced
2 c. lime
8 1/2 qts. water
1 c. vinegar
1 tbsp. alum
Enough water to cover cucumbers

SYRUP:

2 c. vinegar
2 c. water
10 c. sugar
1 sm. pkg. red hots
8 sticks cinnamon

Slice cucumbers 1/2 inch thick - if real large remove seeds and cut in 1/2. Soak in lime and water overnight. Drain and wash well. Soak in clear water 2 hours. Drain. Mix and boil vinegar, alum. Add enough water to cover cucumbers and simmer 2 hours. DO NOT BOIL. Drain.

Prepare syrup. Boil ingredients. Pour over cucumbers. Leave overnight. Drain and reheat syrup for 3 mornings and pour over cucumbers again. On 4th morning, heat syrup and cucumbers. Place in pint jars and can as for any other pickles.
