DRIED APPLE SLICES FOR DECORATING | |
Apples 2 c. lemon juice 1 tbsp. salt Slice apples lengthwise. From each apple you will get only 3 to 4 slices that have a portion of the core. These core slices are the prettiest to use in crafts. Slices should be 1/4 inch thick so they will dry flat. The remaining apple can be sliced 1/8 inch thick so they will dry curly. Soak apple slices in a mixture of the lemon juice and salt for 3 minutes. Place slices on cake racks in a 150 degree oven. Leave door ajar. Dry for 6 hours. Check slices occasionally. They should be drying slowly without turning brown. When dried they will still be pliable and have a leathery feel. Use to make wreaths and ornaments. To lengthen life of decorations, spray with shiny acrylic spray. |
