COCONUT DREAM BARS 
1/2 c. soft shortening (1/2 butter)
1/2 c. packed brown sugar
1 c. flour
2 eggs, well beaten
1 c. packed brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 tbsp. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. moist coconut
1 c. slivered almonds

Mix shortening and sugar thoroughly; stir in flour. Press with hands into ungreased 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake 10 minutes at 350 degrees. Mix eggs, sugar and vanilla. Mix flour, baking powder and salt. Combine egg mixture with flour and add coconut and almonds. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool slightly and then cut bars. Makes 2 1/2 dozen bars.
