PEPPER BISCUITS 
2 1/2 c. flour (soft wheat)
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. coarse ground pepper
1/2 tsp. baking soda
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. buttermilk

Sift dry ingredients; add pepper. Cut in shortening. Add buttermilk and stir gently. Gently cup a small amount between palms; dip into flour. Roll delicately to form a ball. Repeat. Bake at 450 to 500 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes on second rack from the top.
