OLD FASHIONED APPLE DUMPLINGS 
6 med. apples
2 c. flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 c. shortening
1/2 c. milk

SAUCE:

2 c. brown sugar
2 c. water
1/4 c. butter
1/4 tsp. cinnamon

Pare and core apples. Leave whole. Make dough and roll like pastry. Cut into 6 squares. Place apple in each. Fill cavity with cinnamon and sugar. Pat dough around apple and fasten edges securely on top of apple. Place dumplings on greased baking pan. Pour over the sauce made as follows:

Combine brown sugar, water and spice. Cook 5 minutes; remove from heat and add butter. Bake at 375 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes. Baste occasionally during baking.
