MOM'S DATE NUT COOKIES 
2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
1 c. shortening
3 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 c. chopped nuts
1 c. chopped dates
2 tbsp. sweet milk
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
Few drops maple flavoring

Sift together flour, baking soda, cream of tartar. In separate bowl cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and milk. Add dry ingredients, dates, nuts and flavorings to cream mixture. Mix thoroughly.

Form into a loaf or loaves (approximately 3). Chill overnight in freezer. Slice thin. Place on well-oiled cookie sheet. Bake in hot 410 degree oven 8 to 10 minutes or until light brown. Makes approximately 100 cookies.
