APPLE STUFFING (FOR POULTRY) 
8 large tart apples (such as Granny Smith), peeled and cored
1/2 cup cold water
2 cups stuffing
2 tablespoons sugar
2-3 tablespoons melted butter
1 egg

Quarter the peeled apples.

Place them in a saucepan, add the cold water, cover and simmer over low heat until the apples are firm-tender but not mushy.

Allow to cool.

Add the stuffing, sugar, melted butter and egg. Toss the stuffing thoroughly but gently so the apples are not broken.

Makes enough stuffing for 1 large roaster chicken or an 8 lb turkey. Double recipe for a large bird.

Use to stuff a chicken or turkey; alternatively, bake in a loaf pan lined and covered with aluminum foil for 45 minutes. Remove covering for final 10-15 minutes to allow stuffing to crisp up and brown lightly on top.
