BUTTER COOKIE DOUGH 
1 c. butter, softened
1/2 c. sugar
1 lg. egg, lightly beaten
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour

At medium speed beat butter, sugar, egg and vanilla until light and fluffy. Reduce speed to low. Gradually beat in flour until just blended. Shape dough into ball and wrap in plastic wrap. Refrigerate at least 1 hour. Cut and shape and bake 12-15 minutes at 350 degrees.
