POT ROAST WITH APPLE CIDER 
3-4 lb. roast
1 onion, sliced
6 whole cloves
Piece of ginger root
Small piece of cinnamon stick
1 1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. apple cider
2 tbsp. shortening

Put beef with onion, seasoning and cider in a large bowl. Let marinate in refrigerator overnight. Wipe meat. Brown slowly in fat. Add the marinade. Cover and simmer over low heat for about 2 1/2 hours until tender. Serve with pan juice.
