SOUTHERN BISCUITS APRIL'S
GOURMET DELIGHT
 
SOUTHERN BISCUITS:

2 c. flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
2 tsp. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
2/3 c. milk

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. In a bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, salt, cream of tartar and sugar. Add shortening and cut it into the dry mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. With a fork stir in the milk, continue stirring until dough follows the fork around the bowl. Transfer mixture to a floured surface and knead for 30 seconds. Pat dough to 1/2 inch thick and using a biscuit cutter, cut into 16 biscuits. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 10-12 minutes. Spread with our Community Concord Grape Preserves.
