DECORATED CHRISTMAS COOKIES 
4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. butter
1 tsp. baking soda
2 c. sugar
2 well beaten eggs
1/3 c. sour milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix flour, baking powder, salt and shortening as for pie crust; set aside. In a separate bowl, mix sugar, soda, eggs, milk and vanilla. Pour sugar mixture into flour and shortening. Mix until smooth and roll thin on a floured pastry cloth. Cut out desired shape with cookie cutters. Bake on greased cookie sheet at 350 until light golden brown.

ICING:

4 tbsp. Crisco
3 c. powdered sugar
2 egg whites
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Cream Crisco, add 1/2 of sugar and cream for 2 minutes. Beat egg whites fairly stiff, add with balance of ingredients and cream again. Add a few drop of water if too stiff or more powdered sugar if too thin. Ice cooled cookies, decorate with red and green decorator frosting, colored sugar, and red hots.
