OLD-FASHIONED DOUGHNUTS | |
1 qt. milk 1 c. mashed potatoes 1 c. sugar 1 c. lard 1 pkg. dry yeast 5 1/2 c. flour 2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. baking soda 8 or 9 c. flour Add flour until dough loses stickiness. Let set overnight or several hours. Then roll out and cut doughnuts with doughnut cutter. Let them raise until double and fry in hot oil. First test the temperature of the oil by dropping a small ball of dough into the oil and see how well it fries. Flip doughnuts while frying to get both sides evenly done. Sugar with granulated sugar when done. |
