CORN BREAD 
1 1/2 c. cornmeal
1 c. flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. milk
1 egg, beaten
1/4 c. shortening, melted

Mix cornmeal, flour, baking powder and salt. Mix together milk and eggs. Add shortening. Add milk mixture to cornmeal mixture. Stir only enough to mix. Bake at 425 degrees about 25 minutes. To sweeten, add 1/4 cup sugar.

Variation: Add some chopped bacon. Grandma called this "Hunter's Corn Bread".
