HAMBURGER VEGETABLE SOUP
1 lb. hamburger
1 c. chopped onion
1 c. diced potatoes
1 c. diced carrots
1 c. shredded cabbage
1 c. sliced celery
4 c. canned tomatoes
1/4 c. rice
3 c. beef bouillon (or 3 beef bouillon cubes and 3 c. water)
1/4 tsp. basil
1/4 tsp. thyme
1 bay leaf
Salt and pepper to taste

Cook meat and onion until meat is done, drain all fat. Add remaining ingredients and simmer about one hour. Makes about 9 cups. Can be made before hand and reheated. My family likes this served in bread bowls. I take frozen bread dough and thaw it out. I take my smallest stainless bowl and grease outside well and put dough evenly on the outside. Bake about 10 minutes in oven with bowl upside down, then slip bowl out and bake bread bowl another 10 to 15 minutes right side up. Let cool. This is time consuming and continue making bowls one for each person eating. I only do it when I'm in the mood!
