IRISH STEW 
1 1/2 lb. beef cubes
1/4 c. cooking oil
3 tbsp. flour
4 c. hot water
2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
3 whole allspice
2 whole cloves
1 lg. bay leaf
1/2 c. white wine
8 sm. whole onions
12 miniature carrots
2 c. celery, cut up
6 med. potatoes, diced
3 turnips, diced
4 tbsp. cornstarch
1/4 c. water

Flour beef cubes and brown in oil. Add water, salt, pepper, allspice, cloves, and bay leaf. Cook until meat is tender over low heat. Add wine and vegetables, cook until tender. Thicken with cornstarch dissolved in cold water.
