1 sm. (5 oz.) can evaporated milk 1 tbsp. vinegar 2 c. flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tbsp. sugar 1/4 tsp. baking soda 1 tbsp. baking powder 5 tbsp. shortening Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Combine milk, vinegar and enough water to make 1 cup sour milk. Combine flour, salt, sugar, soda and baking soda well. Add shortening and work to a cornmeal consistency. Add soured milk and stir only enough to mix well. Flour a board and your hands and pat to 1/2 inch thick. Cut into about 12 biscuits with a knife or cutter. Grease baking dish and place with sides touching, bake 12-15 minutes. After adding liquid work as little as possible and get into oven quickly for Cat Heat type. Makes 12. |
