1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
1/2 c. milk
1 c. mashed potatoes
2 tbsp. cocoa
2 c. flour
4 eggs
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. nuts, chopped

Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg yolks and potatoes. Mix dry ingredients with milk; add vanilla and nuts. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.

ICING:

2 c. brown sugar
1 stick butter
1/2 c. thick cream

Let sugar and butter melt good. Then add cream, beat well.
