RED VELVET CAKE 
2 c. sugar
1 c. butter
2 eggs
1 tbsp. vinegar
1 tbsp. cocoa
2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk
2 oz. red food coloring
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream butter, sugar and eggs. Make a paste of cocoa and vinegar and add to above. Sift flour, salt and soda. Add to mixture alternately with buttermilk. Add vanilla and coloring. Bake in either 3 (8 inch) pans or 2 (9 inch) pans that have been greased and floured. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes.

FROSTING:

1/4 c. flour
1 c. milk

Cook over low heat until smooth paste (fairly thick) continue to stir as it cooks. Cover and refrigerate overnight or at least 8 hours.

Cream 1 stick butter, 1/2 cup (white) Crisco no other kind and one cup sugar, when fluffy (use electric mixer) add to paste mixture. Frosting should be smooth and fluffy. This is a beautiful and special cake!!
